How do you Choose Safe Cosmetics?

Safe Body Care

I had a scare last year with my breast. My doctor informed me that there are hidden petroleum based chemicals in most of my body care products. I found this local company that is petro-chemical free...made in small batches. I love the lotion, soap and lip balm! And my doctor approves. The company is called IluminaOrganics.com They also have great stuff for mommas and babies so I can get my friends and fam safe baby gifts

Choices choices

There are so many choices...most of them are not so good. They say 'natural' or 'organic' on the label...but no certified organic, so they still have chemicals, synthetics or altered natural/organic ingredients. I checked out www.organicbound.mionegroup.com....it's GREAT!

Make-up Junkies can go Green!

Get informed on how personal care items, shampoo, soap, facial cleanser, etc can pollute you and your home. There are a lot of chemicals in them and you really need to look at the labels. Don't trust them just because they say "organic" on the label. Many still load their products with parabens - preservatives that should be avoided. Its a shame that the US uses chemicals long since banned by the European Union.
Check out www.safecosmetics.org for more specifics and companies who are providing safer options.

Back to Basics

I agree that its difficult to find products that don't have questionable ingredients in them. I'm working on cutting down what I use - I use jojoba oil and aloe vera for moisturizing, olive oil or lemon juice in my hair. My biggest problem is getting my about-to-be teenaged-daughter to start thinking about the products she uses. Right now, she thinks I'm eccentric!

Organic Face Cream

I choose organic face cream and try to avoid products with phlates, parabens and sodium laureth sulfate. You'd be surprised at how difficult this is. Sometimes you just choose the ones where these ingredients are at the bottom of the list as ingredients are always listed from the most-used ingredient to the least used-one.
